Advanced Van Westendorp price sensitivity

Price Range Finder

Find the price range customers consider credible.

When to use it

You need a defensible market range before choosing or revisiting a price.

What respondents do

They name four prices in their own numbers: so cheap they would doubt the quality, a great bargain, starting to get expensive, and too expensive to consider. If you set a proposed price, they also rate how likely they would be to buy at it.

What Kinetic returns

  • The acceptable price range, with both edges priced
  • The optimal price point and the indifference point
  • Purchase intent at your proposed price, when enabled
  • The full interactive curve chart

Respondents: minimum 15 valid responses; stronger at 30.

Worth knowing: Van Westendorp measures perceived price boundaries from stated answers. It describes how people frame a fair price and it stays silent on demand volume.

Gabor-Granger price testing

Price Point Tester

See how purchase intent and modeled revenue change across tested prices.

When to use it

You already have plausible price points and need to choose among them.

What respondents do

Each person starts near the middle of your price ladder and answers yes or no: would they buy at this price? The next price adapts to each answer, so a few questions find their personal ceiling. Nobody walks every price in order.

What Kinetic returns

  • A demand curve across your tested prices
  • A revenue curve and the revenue-maximizing tested price
  • Elasticity callouts between neighboring prices
  • A warning when the winner sits at the edge of your range

Respondents: minimum 15 valid responses; stronger at 30.

Worth knowing: Gabor-Granger tests the exact prices you configured. It reveals nothing between or beyond those points.

MaxDiff best-worst scaling

Feature Value Ranker

Learn which benefits deserve the most weight in the offer.

When to use it

You need to know which features or benefits deserve priority in the offer.

What respondents do

Each screen shows 4 of your items. Respondents pick the most important and the least important, then move to a fresh set: 8 to 15 quick screens in total, with items rotated so every item gets a fair number of appearances.

What Kinetic returns

  • Every item ranked on a 0 to 100 index
  • The gaps that separate leaders from the middle of the pack
  • Stability ranges once responses support them

Respondents: minimum 30 valid responses; stronger at 100.

Worth knowing: Scores rank items relative to your list. Adding or removing items changes the frame and can reorder results.

Choice-based conjoint

Package and Price Builder

Compare the price and feature combinations buyers choose.

When to use it

You need to test feature and price trade-offs as complete offers.

What respondents do

Each screen presents 3 realistic packages built from your features and prices, plus a None option if you allow one. Respondents pick the package they would actually choose, 8 to 12 times, and each line-up is computed to squeeze the most information from every answer.

What Kinetic returns

  • Willingness-to-pay estimates for feature levels
  • Attribute importance shares, with price included
  • The full table of level values, with stability ranges

Respondents: minimum 50 valid responses; stronger at 150.

Worth knowing: This release fits one aggregate model for all respondents. Individual preferences vary around it.

Questions

Pricing questions, answered plainly.

How many responses does a Kinetic study need?

It depends on the method. Van Westendorp and Gabor-Granger studies need at least 15 valid responses and get stronger at 30. MaxDiff needs at least 30 and gets stronger at 100. Choice-based conjoint needs at least 50 and gets stronger at 150. Every report shows the valid response count and the uncertainty alongside the result, and these thresholds are product guidance for reading the result, not a statistical guarantee.

Do survey answers predict what customers will pay at checkout?

Not exactly, and we do not claim they do. Pricing surveys produce stated-preference evidence: what people say they would pay, read with the method and sample-size limits. That evidence is a strong input to a pricing decision, but it should be combined with observed conversion, retention, sales conversations, and pricing experiments where you have them.

Why does Kinetic use my customers instead of a rented panel?

Because the price you are setting will be paid by your customers, not by panel respondents. People who already know your product give willingness-to-pay answers grounded in real usage and real alternatives. Kinetic does not sell panel sample; you invite your own customers, users, or members, and the evidence stays specific to your market.

Should I choose Kinetic Pro or one one-time study?

If you have one pricing question to answer now, buy one study: $149 for Van Westendorp, $199 for Gabor-Granger, $279 for MaxDiff, or $499 for choice-based conjoint. If you expect to keep testing prices, packages, and scenarios, Kinetic Pro is $99 per month or $990 per year with unlimited studies and the Workspace, and the monthly plan starts with a 30-day free trial. Recent one-time purchases are credited toward your first Pro payment.

What happens to my Workspace if I cancel Pro?

Your access runs to the end of the period you paid for, then the Workspace becomes read-only. Nothing is deleted: your studies, scenarios, and decision records stay available to read and export, and everything becomes editable again if you resume Pro.

Does Kinetic recruit respondents for me?

No. The current product does not recruit participants and does not sell panel sample. You share your study link with your own customers, users, or members by email, in-app message, or community post. If you need a recruited sample, a panel-based platform is a better fit for that job.
